Domestic Violence & Housing

Advocates to End Domestic Violence ARE Housing Advocates

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women and their children. Survivors of domestic violence face many barriers to safety including poor credit, ruined rental histories, lack of steady employment, housing discrimination, and loss of subsidized or other affordable housing.

“When access to basic needs such as housing and safety are compromised, individuals can experience heightened risks of violence.

Access to safe, affordable housing can be a critical protective factor from sexual violence.

Advocates and survivors identify housing as a primary need of survivors and a critical component in survivors’ long-term safety and stability.”
